Me Cheeta – James Lever

The ultimate Hollywood insider memoir gleefully spills the beans on the sins and misadventures of such greats as Dietrich, Hepburn K, Flynn and Bogart, and what hair-raising tales they are. The author? Cheeta, the chimpanzee from the Tarzan movies.

Whilst a splendid spoof on the cinematic autobiography, with an uproarious line in comic cynicism, Me Cheeta also has some literary chops. The animal rights stuff doesn’t quite come off, but the implicit comparison between celebrities way beyond the constraints of the law of social propriety with a troop of apes is slyly done.
