Oryx and Crake – Margaret Atwood

It is the fate of speculative writing about the near future that certain ideas will inevitably seem silly shortly after publication. Oryx and Crake was published in 2003 and already references to chatrooms and CD-ROMs resonate with a hearty clang. Still, the stuff about environmental catastrophe and genetic engineering overreaching itself are pretty effective, and there are some fine imaginative flourishes.
